Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the 'Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas' event in Jharkhand's Khumti, released the 15th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme and criticized the previous government for neglecting the basic needs of deprived people before 2014. The 15th installment, amounting to over ₹18,000 crore, will benefit more than eight crore farmers, providing ₹2,000 each.
The timing of the release drew criticism from the Congress, with Jairam Ramesh questioning its intention, linking it to upcoming assembly elections in five states. PM Modi also launched the 'Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra' and Pradhan Mantri Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups Development Mission during the event. He underscored the importance of developing the nation's four "immortal pillars": women, farmers, youth, and the neo-middle class and poor.
PM-KISAN, launched in 2019, is one of the world's largest Direct Benefit Transfer schemes. The 15th installment release requires eKYC and Aadhaar seeding to ensure direct benefit transfers to genuine beneficiaries without middlemen involvement.
